ADVICE FROM
PROFESSOR PUMPER THE CAT
Pumper Do's:
- Have your tank pumped every 3-5 years
- Do keep record of pumping and other tank maintenance
- Use water efficiently
- Repair leaky faucets and toilets immediately
- Wash only full loads in the dishwasher and clothes washer
- Reduce the use of drain cleaners by minimizing the amount of hair, grease and food that go down the drain
- Laundry-distribute loads evenly throughout the week to avoid overloading the system with large amounts of water
- Use liquid detergents
- Know the location of your system before landscaping or installing pools or home additions.
Pumper Donts:
- Do not use every flush toilet cleaners
- Do not use your system as a trash can- no cat litter, goldfish, feminine products, diapers, baby wipes, medications, cigarette butts- If your body has not processed it, it should not go into the septic tank
- Do not plant plants that root or trees near system
- Do not drive or park on any part of your septic system
- Keep roof drains, basement sump pumps and other rainwater drainage away from the leach field
- Do not drain hot tubs or pools near your leach field
- Do not make or allow repairs to your septic system without obtaining required health dept permits
